Vuarnet in Avoriaz: A Return to the Origins of Alpine Innovation
For two days, we joined Vuarnet on a press trip to Avoriaz, a destination that holds deep historical significance for the brand. More than just a ski resort, Avoriaz is a symbol of architectural innovation and alpine vision, imagined and brought to life by Jean Vuarnet, Olympic champion and founder of the brand.
A Legacy Built on Vision and Performance
Jean Vuarnet was not only a gold medalist in alpine skiing at the 1960 Winter Olympics but also a pioneer who reshaped the future of French skiing. His desire to modernize mountain experiences led to the creation of Avoriaz, a car-free resort blending functionality and avant-garde design. That same progressive mindset laid the foundations for the Vuarnet brand, established in 1957, with a focus on precision, protection, and timeless style.
Avoriaz: Where Architecture Meets Landscape
Avoriaz is internationally recognized for its distinctive architectural identity. Designed in collaboration with architects such as Jacques Labro, the resort breaks away from traditional Alpine aesthetics. Its wooden facades, organic forms, and angular silhouettes are carefully integrated into the natural contours of the mountain, creating a visual harmony between man-made structures and the surrounding peaks. This bold approach earned Avoriaz numerous architectural awards and has made it a reference in sustainable and visionary mountain development.
Mineral Lenses: The Core of Vuarnet’s Expertise
At the heart of Vuarnet’s offering is its signature mineral lens technology, delivering unparalleled optical clarity, maximum UV protection, and high durability. With mirrored, photochromic, and polarized options, the lenses are engineered to perform across a range of light and environmental conditions — without compromising on aesthetics.
A Broader Vision: Eyewear and Beyond
While Vuarnet remains a benchmark in technical eyewear, the brand is expanding its scope. October 2025 will mark the launch of a new eyewear collection for FW25/26, followed by the release of Vuarnet’s first in-house ski apparel line in November — developed in Europe, reflecting the same commitment to quality and performance.
Athletes as Brand Ambassadors
Vuarnet continues to collaborate with elite athletes such as Liv Sansoz, known for her world-first tandem paragliding flight from K2 without oxygen, and Charles Dubouloz, who embodies the spirit of challenge and precision in extreme alpine environments. These partnerships reinforce Vuarnet’s alignment with excellence and resilience.
